Is a microSD slot still necessary in times of cloud storage, streaming services such as Spotify and Netflix, unlimited flat rates and ever increasing internal storage? I switched to iPhone privately two years ago, so the question is not currently relevant for me. Before that, however, I only used Android smartphones for eight years. The microSD slot was indispensable for me, especially in the early days of Android, but it has gradually deteriorated over the years. I am not a digital messi who must have his 200 GB music collection with me on the go. Most Android smartphones, especially in the upper class, come with so much memory that a microSD card is hardly necessary for the average user.
