Quite a few fortune tellers believe that they can recognize the successor to the iPhone in Apple's AR glasses. I don't think so. I myself wear glasses, but not everyone likes the "nose bikes", at least not all the time. Even those who have to wear glasses often only use contact lenses. Do you really think that you can turn this critical mass into enthusiastic glasses wearers in the future and forget the short grip in your pocket for your iPhone?

Apple AR glasses could end up looking something like this:

Rather, AR glasses will gradually replace the Apple Watch in the future. For example, in pedestrian navigation and in general for all applications in which one is currently staring at the iPhone or the Apple Watch and has to run. A dangerous matter that now guarantees higher chances of survival in traffic thanks to AR glasses. AR glasses would also be useful and superior to an Apple Watch when using Siri. The assistant could not only act by voice, but also display information directly. The same naturally applies to news, weather and warning notices and much more. In this regard, Apple's AR glasses would be the perfect addition to the iPhone, but not necessarily to the Apple Watch.

My thoughts on the weekend: The column wants to provide food for thought, call for discussion and reflect on the “news surge” of the week towards the end. A small selection of the previous articles in the column:

  • Smartphone secretly films - what now? Time for this feature
  • Going back in time with smartphones: are retro phones cool or embarrassing?
  • Climate killer smartphone: just as bad as low-cost airlines?

There is not really much space left for them in this scenario. Sooner or later, the smartwatch is likely to lose importance and in the end it will even go away. The iPod was no different with the increasing success of the iPhone. Even the only remaining model - the iPod touch - is more of a castrated iPhone for adolescents today than a real iPod.

Does everything sound very improbable at the moment? Maybe, but we'll talk again in 5 years. You don't have to wait that long for my next column, which will be available on Sunday the following week.
