At first glance, the new Huawei smartphones in the P40 series are very similar. But there are many decisive differences in the technical equipment, especially between the entry-level model P40 Lite and the top models P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro +. This is exactly what we will look at below:
- Size and weight: At 6.1 inches, the Huawei P40 has the smallest display of the quartet. At 175 g, it is also the lightest. The P40 Pro weighs 209 g and, like the Plus model, displays content at 6.58 inches. The inexpensive Huawei P40 Lite lies between the flagships with a 6.4-inch screen size and 183 g weight.
- Camera: With the rear camera, there are big differences between the four models. The "small" P40 Lite has a rather rare quad camera with 48 MP main camera, 13 MP ultra wide angle and 2 MP macro and depth for this price range. The P40 Pro also has four lenses (50 MP main camera, 40 MP ultra-wide angle, 12 MP telephoto and ToF), while the top model P40 Pro + even has a "Super Periscope Telephoto" sensor with 10x optical, 20x hybrid and 100 -fold has digital zoom. In the P40, on the other hand, there is “only” a triple camera with a 50 MP main camera, 16 MP ultra wide angle and a triple telephoto lens with 8 MP. Camera specialist Leica was involved in the three top models.
- Front camera: The front camera in the P40 Lite has a resolution of 16 MP. The P40 and P40 Pro (+) each have a selfie camera with 32 MP, which also has an auto focus on the Pro model.
- Battery: The affordable P40 Lite is equipped by Huawei with a large battery of 4,200 mAh for the price range. It is on the same level as the P40 Pro (+). The P40, which is twice as expensive, must be satisfied with 3,800 mAh. The Lite and the two Pro models can each be quickly charged with 40 watts (wireless), the P40 only with a maximum of 22.5 watts.
- RAM and ROM: It starts with the P40 Lite with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. The same memory configuration is also installed in the Huawei P40, plus 8 GB RAM. Huawei, on the other hand, has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory in the P40 Pro, and 8 and 512 GB in the P40 Pro. For all devices, the storage space can be expanded with a NM memory card from Huawei (i.e. no microSD) with a maximum of 256 GB.
- 5G modem: Apart from the Lite, every P40 is equipped with a 5G modem. Because this is already on board with the in-house Kirin 990 5G SoC. The three upmarket P40 models thus support the new mobile radio standard and thus fast mobile Internet in the currently still rudimentary 5G network. The P40 Lite features the Kirin 810 and maximum LTE / 4G radio.
- Colors: Huawei is quite colorful when it comes to the choice of colors for the Lite model, which is available in the colors Midnight Black, Crush Green and Sakura Pink. The P40 is available in Black, Blush Gold and Silver Frost - and therefore in the price range of appropriate muted colors. The same colors are waiting for prospective buyers of the Huawei P40 Pro, while the P40 Pro + will only be available in black and white.
-
Price: Huawei charges the following prices for the P40 models without a contract:
Huawei P40 Lite for 299 euros
Huawei P40 for 799 euros
Huawei P40 Pro for 999 euros
Huawei P40 Pro + for 1,399 euros
- Pre-orderers: Anyone who orders a P40 Lite by April 6th will receive the FreeBuds 3 wireless earphones with a RRP of 179 euros free of charge. Pre-orderers (until May 1, 2020) of the P40 and P40 Pro, which will be on sale on May 2, can even look forward to a free addition of the smartwatch Huawei Watch GT2e and the FreeBuds 3 with a total value of 348 euros.
