Video: Is The Huawei P40 (lite / Pro / Plus) Waterproof? - IP Certification
The normal Huawei P40 is protected against liquids and dust according to the IP standard IP53. This means the following for the smartphone:
Dust can actually not harm the smartphone. The Huawei P40 is protected against dust in damaging amounts, but it is not completely "dustproof".
Unfortunately, the P40 is not waterproof. It is maximally protected against falling spray water if the device is slightly angled. So it can be used briefly in the rain without any problem or get a few drops of the shower. However, holding it directly under the tap or even submerging it is harmful.

Huawei P40 Pro & Pro Plus: Waterproof to 1.5 meters thanks to IP68 certification
The "Pro" and "Pro Plus" models of the Huawei P40 are much better protected from water and dust. IP68 is currently the maximum value that a smartphone can achieve in terms of dust and water resistance.
The Huawei P40 Pro and Pro Plus are completely dustproof. Even the smallest particles cannot penetrate the device.
Both Pro models are protected against permanent immersion at a depth of 1.5 meters. The "Huawei P40 Pro" models are therefore waterproof and not only rain, but also large amounts of water should generally not be able to harm the smartphone. However, there are also a number of things to keep in mind with IP68 certification, as we will clarify in the next section.

What you have to consider despite IP68 certification
Devices with an IP68 certification also have their limits. Even if the Pro models of the Huawei P40 are protected against water and dust according to the manufacturer, you should note the following:
Protection for water is only guaranteed for fresh water (fresh water)! Therefore, you should not submerge your device in salt water. For underwater photos in the sea, you therefore need an additional waterproof cover for the device. If the Huawei P40 Pro or P40 Pro Plus comes into contact with salt water, you should immediately rinse it thoroughly with fresh water. The waterproofness of devices with IP68 certification only applies to a deep diving limit of 1.5 meters.
In addition, even with a waterproof smartphone, the exposed connections, such as the USB power connector, can start to corrode over time if your smartphone comes into contact with water too often. In addition, one must note that protection against the ingress of water can only be guaranteed with a fall-free device. Every fall can lead to tiny cracks, breaks and deformations through which water can penetrate.
