So far so good - not. The next punch comes at the end of April 2019: PlayStation Japan announces that it will stop repairing the PS3 on May 31, 2019. Accordingly, there will no longer be an official point of contact who will take care of troubleshooting or damage to the devices in the future.

"Where should I have my PS3 repaired now?" You may be asking yourself now. Well, there are some service providers on the Internet who actually still offer PS3 repairs. However, depending on the type of defect, these can cost up to 90 euros.

Quite sobering when you consider that you can get a used PS3 for the same price - or less - now. The question arises much more: Is it really worth investing again in a console from the previous generation or is it not more sensible to buy a PlayStation 4?

Because now hand on heart: Basically, you no longer need a PlayStation 3 to play PS3 games. I'm just saying: PlayStation Now. Here you can choose from over 600 titles for PS4, PS3 and PS2; there will certainly be more in the future. You can see the current overview of the available games via PlayStation Now in our article.

And if you are still reluctant to buy a PS4 because you now think "But a good internet connection is necessary for PlayStation Now and I don't have it", you can simply wait for the PS5 - provided your PS3 still survives Long. Because the next-gen console promises backward compatibility. If that also applies to PS3 games, your PlayStation 3 would basically be completely useless.

I know it hurts. But that's life. At some point you have to say goodbye to your beloved PS3 because a newer, better console is taking its place. Think of it this way: Instead of compulsively wanting to keep your PS3 alive, which in the end will probably also be associated with a lot of stress and money, you'd better keep the good memories of it. And strictly speaking, the PS3 is not dead either, because it will continue to live in the form of PlayStation Now and backward-compatible games.
