We are in the middle of the global economic war and the other side is putting their weapons in position. Anyone who is currently using an iPhone in China is opposed by the resentment of the population. What this means for the future sales figures can be well imagined - Apple boss Tim Cook will not be happy about it. Rightly so, after all, China is the largest smartphone market in the world and Apple is not having an easy time of it there.

Meanwhile, Huawei is developing its own operating system and will also try to eliminate the hardware dependencies. If necessary, you first copy "Western technology" again, adapt and develop further. This takes time, but in the end, a functional China OS and more could result in a real alternative and a functioning ecosystem, which can be dangerous for the duopoly consisting of Android and the iPhone worldwide (USA excluded). The Chinese are hungry for success and, if there is a shortage, will certainly be supported directly by their own government - a top priority.

My thoughts on the weekend: The column wants to provide food for thought, call for discussion and reflect on the “news surge” of the week towards the end. A small selection of the previous articles in the column:

  • Dear smartphone manufacturers, please save yourself the power adapter - for the environment and profit
  • Disadvantages Apple e-bike and cyclists? Here the industry leader fails
  • Apple Watch for Android users: Please make the smartwatch dream come true

Trump wakes up the red dragon and breeds an even more powerful enemy for himself and his successors. Under no circumstances should the Chinese be smiled at in their endeavors. Just a reminder: At the moment, American astronauts still have to fly with the Russians as "co-drivers". Taikonauts meanwhile slide into space without support - embarrassing, sad, but true.

Will a Chinese alternative soon join today's duopoly? The previous "victims":

Worldwide trade = peacekeeping

Apart from the big Monopoly game, the current situation is far more worrying, because how quickly a cold economic war could sooner or later turn into a real, hot battle. Protectionism and isolation was and is a profound cause of war and misery in the world. In this respect, I am also somewhat skeptical of the thought of my colleague Kaan Gürayer, who expects a European initiative à la Airbus in these times. Sure, you could develop an “EU phone” and maybe use it to make yourself independent from the rest of the world and lock yourself off. Or one welcomes the trade - no matter from which corner of the world. If we, the Europeans, have learned something in the past 70 years, then the wisdom: If you trade with each other, you won't kill yourself. In the end, open trade means active doctrine of peace and peace is really priceless.

Now more than ever? Cheap Huawei products on Amazon

Maybe the gentlemen in Washington and Beijing should think about it so that the ban on China does not become a tangible Cuban Missile Crisis. And the reader could think of it again today at the ballot box - I wish you a nice and, above all, peaceful Sunday.
