The current iPhone system is a real “hit”, because Apple delivers convincing quality and has only had to touch up seven times within less than 2 months. Sorry, I forgot to announce the irony of this paragraph. Seriously: Apple has never had to fix a lot of bugs so often in such a short time. The third, major service update (iOS 13.3) is already on track and will probably be available in record time before the end of the year. A reliable and confidence-inspiring system change looks different.

If you want this smart smartwatch, you can't avoid iOS 13, which is criticized:

Apple Watch Series 5 at MediaMarkt in the online shop

It's no wonder that quite a few users still prefer to wait to upgrade to iOS 13. I, too, was an old “update muffle” who was very happy to use iOS 12.4.1 and for the reasons just mentioned did not actually want to “upgrade” to iOS 13 at the moment. But now an Apple Watch Series 5 fluttered into my house as a test device, passing the quiet times without the update stress. From now on I am fully in the game again and can install Apple's patchwork almost every hour.

My thoughts on the weekend: The column wants to provide food for thought, call for discussion and reflect on the “news surge” of the week towards the end. A small selection of the previous articles in the column:

  • iPhone 9 is still coming: Apple's secret plan seen through
  • Uninspired smartphone industry: when are you tackling the real problems?
  • Smartphones from Africa: isn't Wakanda a dream after all?

Apple needs to do better in software

It sucks! Does this really need to be updated for new hardware? Can't the Apple Watch Series 5 also work with iOS 12? Not according to Apple, because of course the makers in Cupertino save the porting costs. Actually, I understand the underlying idea of simplification, but only if you have the quality control of the software under control as before. Otherwise, the device purchase becomes a risky update game.

Never change a running system? Well, we currently only have a limited choice for Apple users. Have a nice Sunday
