Let's take a look at the technical features of the Honor 9X: The most important pro argument is probably the chic front of the China cell phone, which consists almost entirely of a screen and a rather narrow edge. The LCD has an impressive 6.59 inch diagonal and has a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. The main memory is 4GB, the battery holds 4000 mAh, the in-house Kirin 710F is installed as a processor.

Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.1 is used as the operating system - a bit of a shame, because now you can also expect the newer Android 10. At least an update from Honor is possible soon. Despite the US trade dispute, thanks to a certification trick by the manufacturer, the Play Store and Google Services are available on the Honor 9X. In fact, it is a Huawei P Smart Z that has only been given a new name and a new design.

On the back there are three lenses (48 MP main camera, 8 MP super wide angle, 2 MP depth assistant), the "selfie snap" can be found in the form of an extendable front camera. There is no notch in the display.

All in all, solid values, packaged in an attractive housing. The problem: The competition in the smartphone middle class is strong and the price of 299 euros for the 9X, which Honor calls, does not really fit the price-breaker image.

Honor 9X: These are the (better) alternatives

The purchase of the Honor 9X cannot be recommended without further ado, because there are at least two good alternatives. Above all, there would be the "twin": the previously released Huawei P smart Z, a mid-range smartphone from the parent company. This in-house competition offers very similar properties (pop-up camera, no notch) to the Honor 9X, but is now cheaper to find in stores. Not to forget: Huawei P30 Lite (around 250 euros) and Honor 20 Lite (around 220 euros) - both solid alternatives (but with Notch).

The Honor 9X starts in the medium price range - and there is already a Chinese high-flyer who has set the bar high: The Xiaomi Mi 9T for around 300 euros scores with an OLED display and good battery life.
