Chrome OS on Chromebooks: slim, stable and secure

The software basis for Chromebooks is the underlying Chrome OS. It is an operating system with a Linux kernel that has been optimized for performance and stability. The Google services are closely linked and the Chrome browser in particular plays a central role in the software architecture.

A good part of the applications are basically bored out Chrome extensions. That is not to say that they are inferior to their counterparts in regular desktop or mobile applications. In fact, the software base is stable, but only works to a limited extent without an internet connection. Those who prefer "classic" installable applications also have the option of accessing the Google Play Store and installing numerous applications from there that are optimized for use with Android.

Chrome OS is continuously updated, the updates are installed without user intervention. The operating system is so economical in terms of system requirements that even booting up rarely takes more than 6 seconds. Thanks to the hard-wired access to the Google applications with the operating system, you can easily work in the cloud. And viruses are hardly a problem either.

Of course, Chrome OS is not for everyone. If you want to play complex games or create content, e.g. edit images or cut videos, you will probably be happier with a Mac or Windows laptop. But if you have the usual end-user uses with your laptop, for example "only" surfing the Internet and writing texts and doing most of your work in Gmail, Google Drive and other Google apps, you can be happy with a Chromebook. By the way, Chromebooks are the perfect computers for less experienced users, so they are well suited for those parts of the family whose computers are otherwise always happy to be freed from data waste at Christmas.
