Video: Outriders In Preview: The Coolest Abilities In A Loot Shooter So Far
We were able to try out three of the four classes: Pyromancer, Trickster and Devastator. The fourth class is not yet known. Each class can equip a total of three out of eight skills. Many loot shooters put the weight on your weapons first, that's different with Outriders.
Your abilities have a very short cooldown and are some of the coolest abilities I've seen in any genre representative. They give you a sense of power and bring the fast, but not necessarily hectic action of the game to the fore.
You can also play Outriders as a cover shooter, but you shouldn't, because cover can only regenerate the first third of your life points. You heal yourself with kills that have to be different depending on the class (more details will follow below).
Due to the short cooldown and the healing effect, the incentive is great that you plunge into battle and use your abilities tactically wisely. In addition, all your skills work through coverings and you can constantly put pressure on your opponents. Always on the move and your skills are the key factors to overwhelm your opponents.
Even if the classes and their skills are in the foreground, the weapons feel useful and give you good hit feedback. A shotgun gives you more force and weight in your hands and has to be handled differently than, for example, a submachine gun.
Good synergy is needed
Depending on your playing style, you should choose your class carefully. The classes and their skills largely determine your approach.
The Trickster must be used at a short distance because all of its capabilities can only bridge a short distance. Enemies you kill at close range will heal you and bring you extra shield points.
The devastator can be used at short and medium distances and serves as a kind of tank. For example, it can cover itself with hard rock to take more damage. However, the devastator also shines more in the middle of the battle. He heals himself by killing opponents who are too close to him.
The Pyromancer, as the name suggests, uses fire for its abilities and is particularly suitable for medium distances. Enemies marked by your fire and then killed will heal you.
The fourth class is not yet known. But I suspect that this is a class that tends to cover long distances. This is still missing.
In all classes, however, it is important to ensure that you create a certain synergy between your abilities and your skills in the talent tree. For example, increased shotgun damage in the skill tree does little for the pyromancer, but it does so much more for the trickster.
Your equipment can also buff certain abilities. Together with the skill synergy, there is a great incentive for you to build the “perfect class” for you. All classes feel different, individual and distinctive.
Because all skills really have a great benefit, Outriders also invites you to experiment. Overall, the freedom of your class composition is one of Outriders' greatest strengths.
But what exactly is Outriders?
This is the question that worries me the most. Unfortunately, I was only able to play one level and all I had to do was go to point A, defeat the opponents, collect something, go to point B, kill opponents and so on. You understand the pattern.
The level is linear and the only optional branch ends in a bunker where wave after wave has to be defeated to get the required sidequest item. In contrast to the fight, it's pretty disappointing. Hopefully more information about the game world, the characters and above all about the plot will appear soon. However, according to the developers, other levels have more branches and offer more space for exploration.
Since Outriders is not meant to be a service game, the questions arise, what exactly does it really want and, above all, whether the story and the loot pool keep going after the campaign has been completed. According to the developer, there is an end game, but unfortunately they have not yet revealed anything about it. So how it will look exactly remains speculation.
Playing with friends shouldn't be a problem, however. Fortunately, you can join any of your friends to participate in the missions. The game also registers your progress even if you are not the host. The world tier, i.e. the level of difficulty, is always determined by the host.
Now from € 67.89 at Amazon price can now be higher. Price from 2020-26-07 11:26 p.m.
It should be noted that I was initially rather skeptical about Outriders. The gameplay with the exaggerated but deliberate depiction of violence is energetic and, above all, fun. So much fun that it definitely shows up positively on my radar.
Outriders does not yet have a fixed release date. So far, it is planned that the game will be released in late 2020.
