The AirPods are great for those who don't want ear-closing in-ear headphones. For this category of headphones, they offer good, if somewhat shallow, sound. For many users, they fit well, but some of them are not compatible with the AirPods. With their flat design, they stand out from the other models. I can easily wear them under a hat or a (ski) helmet without pressing anything. Wind noise is therefore also very low.

In the second generation, the AirPods are a bit more energy efficient and with the command "Hey Siri" you can start the voice assistant orally. In the cheapest version, the AirPods case is charged via Lightning, in the more expensive version you can also use wireless charging.

AirPods Pro

The AirPods Pro are the ideal travel headphones. The active noise canceling reduces the turbine noise in the airplane and the driving noise in the train enormously. The case is very small (I had to leave my good over-ear headphones at home on many trips because of its size).

The sound is better than that of the AirPods, but still quite reserved. Some find it just right, some want more character in the sound. My recommendation for everyone who travels a lot - with little luggage.

Powerbeats Pro

Not directly from Apple, but the Powerbeats Pro come from the subsidiary Beats. Thanks to the Apple chip, they connect just as easily as the AirPods to iPhone and iPad and support iOS audio sharing. The shortcoming for some could be the lack of active noise canceling and the larger case. For this, they offer large battery reserves.

The most important features are the ear hooks (welcome from athletes, not liked by those who wear glasses) and the significantly more dynamic sound compared to the AirPods (Pro). Listening to music is a little more fun. More details in the test for the Powerbeats Pro.
