The hardware has a relatively similar structure. However, Sony has already announced an intelligent storage system for the PS5 software. Games should no longer be installable as a complete data block, but in individual packages. For example, you can download a game’s single player campaign separately from multiplayer.

However, both consoles are said to be more powerful overall than the cloud gaming competitor Google Stadia. 4K support and ray tracing give hope for better graphics than ever with stable FPS numbers.

The new generation of consoles is coming soon! But do you know which platform really belongs to you?

Next-gen is here! But which console is for you? When do the consoles come on the market?

The two consoles are expected to hit the market in late 2020, perhaps even in time for the Christmas season. The sale price has been announced by any manufacturer. All previously known information for pre-ordering the PlayStation 5.

Design and appearance

The PlayStation 5 will come in black and white and with an elegantly curved look. The initially unusual appearance of the console sparked above all the meme fantasy of the fans. Previously, the fan community had already created many design proposals for the PS5:

The look of the Xbox Series X has also been announced - and is very different from previous design standards for next-gen consoles:

The controllers

The new Xbox controller does not risk experiments and presents itself almost exactly like the tried-and-tested predecessor. Changes are limited to details such as the share button and the USB-C connection.

Sony, on the other hand, continues to rely on evolution and has equipped the DualSense with a whole range of innovative innovations. The most striking is the haptic feedback, which among other things will react to whether you are moving on asphalt or sand in the game. We have summarized all previously known information about Sony's DualSense for you here.

Exclusive games

Unlike in Xbox One times, Microsoft has brought a whole series of developer studios on board, which suggests that the Xbox Series X will play significantly more exclusive games than its predecessor. The list of confirmed exclusive titles for both consoles is still manageable.

PlayStation 5:

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • Demon's Souls
  • Deathloop
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo

Xbox Series X:

  • Halo Infinite
  • Gears 5
  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
  • Everwild

Backward compatibility and smart delivery

Both consoles are said to be backwards compatible. So you should be able to play games from Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One with the Xbox Series X. The PlayStation 5 is said to support almost all games of the PS4 era, but has not yet been able to guarantee this compatibility for 100 percent of all players. Classic versions of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, on the other hand, are partially covered by the paid subscription service PlayStation Now. The VR titles of the Playstation 4 should also be supported together with the hardware. All previously known information about the downward compatibility of the PS5 can be found here.

Another technology that Microsoft wants to score with is called Smart Delivery. This means that games purchased are compatible with both the old (Xbox One) and new hardware (Xbox Series X) and, in case of doubt, you don't have to buy the game twice.

Will there be a console war again?

As we reported in a previous article, the new generation of consoles could herald the end of console wars. Crossplay is on the rise. The consoles are working more and more together, now the games and network services are more in focus. Unfortunately, that will probably mean that there will be no further South Park episode on this topic. Too bad, actually.
