Disney wants to position its streaming service as broadly as possible on the market. Most users who have a reasonably up-to-date device with an operating system from Google, Apple, Microsoft or Amazon should also find a Disney + app in their respective app store. Alternatively, you can of course also use a game console, some smart TVs or a laptop with a current browser. Actually, there is only a large group of devices on which Disney + is not yet available at the moment.

Mobile devices that offer a Disney + app:

  • Android smartphones & tablets (from version 5.0)
  • iPhone (from iOS 11)
  • iPad (from iOS / iPadOS 11.0)
  • Amazon Fire tablets

Set-top boxes / streaming sticks supported by Disney +:

  • Android TV (from version 5.0)
  • Apple TV (from the 4th generation)
  • Chromecast (via Android, iOS & Chrome browser)
  • Devices with Apple AirPlay
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • MagentaTV stick

Smart TVs that have a Disney + app:

  • LG Smart TVs (from WebOS 3.0)
  • Samsung Smart TVs (models from 2016 with Tizen-OS)
  • Android TV devices (from version 5.0)
  • Amazon Fire TV Edition Smart TVs

Game consoles supported by Disney +:

  • Playstation 4
  • Xbox One

Browser with which you can see Disney +:

  • Chrome (from 75)
  • Firefox (from 68)
  • Internet Explorer 11
  • Sarfari (from 11)

No Disney + on Nintendo Switch?

After some back and forth, the various Fire TV devices from Amazon were also supported at the start in Germany. Thus, the Disney + app is actually only missing on a large device: the Nintendo Switch (and Switch Lite).

In terms of streaming services, the Nintendo Switch currently only offers YouTube in this country. If you look at the USA, the lack of support for the Nintendo console is surprising. After all, Hulu was the first streaming service on Switch in November 2017 - and the vast majority of Hulu also belongs to the Walt Disney Company. With its family-friendly focus, Disney + would be the perfect streaming service on the Switch. The question of why Disney and Nintendo do not work together remains open for the time being.

Doesn't Disney + work on one of your devices? On which previously incompatible device would you still want the Disney + app? Let us know in the comments.

How do you watch films & series?

Thanks to streaming services, you are no longer dependent on linear television programs and the constant repetition of TV channels. The long train journey can be shortened with a film on your smartphone. And thanks to the increasingly affordable prices and better lamp life, more and more people can now fulfill their dream of a home cinema with a projector. We therefore ask the GIGA community: How do you watch films and series?
