The cheapest model that Apple currently sells is the iPhone 8. It also has a home button and wider edges around the display. Apple reduced it in price in September 2019. Apple improves camera quality from generation to generation. The iPhone 7 delivers the worst picture quality, the iPhone 11 Pro the best, with the most functions.

Display quality: 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max as well as the XS predecessors offer an OLED display. The black levels are more impressive here, and the resolution is slightly higher than that of the other iPhones, which ensures a sharper display.

Achievement: Apple declares to have developed the new A13 chip of the iPhone 11 models especially for machine learning. My recommendations:

• For technology freaks and everyone with a sufficiently thick wallet: the iPhone 11 Pro (Max) is undoubtedly the top model. Too expensive? Next is the compromise …
• For the sensible: The iPhone 11 offers great value for money, but you still get top technology and a very good camera. And for just 50 euros extra storage. Alternatively - depending on the price situation - the iPhone XS is the better choice.
• For smartphone photographers and filmmakers: iPhone 11 Pro; If you can do without the tele, take the iPhone 11.
• For economical users: The iPhone XR delivers a very good overall package at a decent price. Alternatively - depending on the price situation - the iPhone XS is the better choice.

Attention: For some users, the start configuration with 64 GB of memory is tight. The surcharge of 50 euros for the next storage level (128 GB) is worthwhile for the iPhone XR and iPhone 11. With the iPhone 11 Pro (Max) it is unfortunately much more expensive at 170 euros for 256 GB.

As a minimal solution for an iOS smartphone, the iPhone 7 (price comparison) is still well suited - although it does not support the audio sharing of iOS 13 and the performance could soon reach the limits in some applications. The smallest variant also only offers 32 GB of memory. An iPhone 8 that starts with 64 GB could therefore be interesting in the offer. Buy or wait for an iPhone now?

The iPhones are not quite as stable as a few years ago. Prices have fallen since autumn and will continue to fall. If you pay attention to current offers (see also our price boxes above), you will take the biggest drop in prices for the time being. If you don't want an iPhone 11 Pro (Max), you can hit it now. Only the top models have not changed much in terms of price.

By the way: You do not have to shop in the Apple Store, as it is usually only worth buying at the market launch - if there are no offers anywhere. The Apple continues to sell at a non-binding price recommendation and thus sometimes significantly more expensive.
